Kangan, Jul 23 (KNO): In a significant move aimed at enhancing the power infrastructure and addressing long-standing demands of the people, Minister of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kangan, Mian Meher Ali Tuesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting with top officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL). The meeting was attended by the Managing Director KPDCL, Chief Engineer Projects, Superintending Engineer PDD, Superintending Engineer STD, Executive Engineers of PDD and STD, Assistant Executive Engineers of PDD Manigam and Kangan, along with AEE STD from Kangan and Ganderbal. In an statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the key decisions and achievements were reviewed including the green Signal for a new receiving station: One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the official nod for the establishment of a new Receiving Station in Mammar Kangan — a significant achievement that will greatly enhance electricity distribution capacity and reliability in the region. The authorities also approved the augmentation of the Sumbal/Surfraw Receiving Stations to meet the growing power demands and reduce overload-related issues in these areas. Among the other developments, it was also stated that a new transformer will soon be installed to ensure stable and uninterrupted power supply in Kangan town, addressing long-pending issues of low voltage and outages. About the commissioning of Wangath Receiving Station, in the meeting it was also stated that the Wangath Receiving Station is set to be commissioned within the next one and a half months. This move is expected to significantly improve the power scenario in the Wangath and adjoining areas. Likewise about the acceleration of RDSS Works, the meeting emphasized the need to expedite the pace of ongoing works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), with special attention to inclusion of uncovered and newly identified areas. In the meeting, directions were passed to ensure the resumption of the construction work on the PDD Workshop at Margund within the next ten days. The workshop is expected to play a vital role in maintenance and quick repair of damaged infrastructure in the region. Recognizing the repeated transformer failures in several areas, the MLA urged the concerned officials to take urgent measures to upgrade frequently damaged transformers to more robust and higher-capacity units. MLA Kangan appreciated the efforts of the department and urged them to maintain momentum on developmental works. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and timely redressal of power-related grievances in the constituency. The local population has widely welcomed these decisions, especially the approval of the new receiving station, which is seen as a game-changer for the region’s power infrastructure—(KNO)
